Within this pillar, EU funds contribute to improving the general knowledge and technical capacity of the local administration and councillors in the area of urban planning and policy development.
Specific workshops and training sessions were organised based on an assessment of the different needs identified by staff and councillors themselves. Several scholarships were given to Banjul City Council (BCC) staff.
The project also contributes to the modernisation, innovation and efficiency of the local government. An IT server, which could serve as a lever for the extensive digitisation of the administration, was purchased for BCC’s new office building.
Specific policies were developed around the use of data and human resources.
The BCC colleagues responsible for GIS (geographic information system) and spatial planning received specialised training. One specific use to which this was put was the identifying and listing of trees on public land in Banjul.
