Greening the city centre
In 2020, the Ostend-Banjul city link received a European project grant that has given a considerable boost to the greening of Banjul. The greening of the city centre is providing cooler spots for residents of the city. The trees also provide cleaner air by filtering carbon dioxide from the air. More trees are an important mitigation strategy against a changing climate. In total, 3,000 trees will be planted in the city centre. The species planted are mainly Cordia Sebestena, Terminalia Ivorensis and Ficus.
