As part of the greening project, funded by the Province of West Flanders, three plantings (spring 2024, 2025 and 2026) will be organised in Ostend, on its beach, in cooperation with the Agency for Maritime and Coastal Services. Marram grass will be planted by fifth-year and sixth-year pupils of Ostend primary schools.
Before each planting, the city link coordinator will give an information session in the participating school. The challenges of climate change will be explained in a child-friendly way during the information sessions. The need for natural buffers and beach plantings will also be discussed.
The 2024 planting took place on Thursday 14 March on the Oosteroever. Pupils from Leefschool De Vlieger, BSGO Hendrik Conscience and OLVO Vuurtoren took part.
If you as a school would like to take part in the plantings in 2025 and/or 2026, please complete this form.
