WABSA
In 2020, the Ostend-Banjul city link received a European project grant that has given a considerable boost to the greening of Banjul. The West African Bird Study Association (WABSA) monitors the presence of and change in bird species in the Tanbi Wetlands Complex (TWC), a large mangrove area adjacent to Banjul and a real hotspot for migratory and native bird species.
Many of the birds in this area spend the summer in our part of the world. The whinchat is a migratory bird that overwinters south of the Sahara. The wheatear also overwinters on the African savannah.
