Cool Towns: Lijnbaanstraat (± 5.00 - 5.30 pm)
Reducing heat stress is the main ambition in this project and pilot site. A former parking space is being transformed in a cooler green area. Construction works are ongoing.

SCAPE: Gardens of Stene (9.30 - 12.00 am)
This agricultural park on the fringe of Ostend (BE) is a unique setting and consists of 4 areas: vegetable gardens, meadows, grazing fields and test fields. During the SCAPE project, we focussed on water management (opening up creeks, water catchment,…). This led to various positive side effects e.g. on biodiversity and also enabled a Horizon2020 project on food strategy. Works are completed, this pilot site can be visited in full glory (if it’s sunny).

We have bikes for all of you. You can pick up your bike at the railway station (Fietspunt) between 8.00 and 9.20 am. We will leave in group at 9.30 am. The site visit at the Gardens of Stene will be on foot and will take 1.30 hours (from 10.00 until 11.30 am). Please think of warm clothing and comfortable shoes to walk in the fields.
At noon bikes will be delivered back at the railway station.
You can also choose to get to the place of site visit on your own.
In that case, meeting point is Oudstrijdersplein, in front of the restaurant 'De Vlasschaard', at 10.00 am.

SCAPE: City River (5.30 - 6.00 pm)
This project aims to integrate a natural flowing river in a new urban environment on the Victorialaan in Ostend (BE). Not only does the river offer leisure opportunities and a green space for the neighbouring inhabitants, it also doubles as a water draining system, replacing the conventional gutter and sewage systems. This pilot site will be completed by September.
This area is also a pilot in another EU-project, SMART-SPACE, where smart public lighting is getting installed. A brief explanation will be given on site.
